- Ấn phẩmBeing in Shadow and Light(Open Book Publishers, 2025) Belluigi, DinaAcademia and its citizens, during periods of political violence and social conflict, are often overlooked. When attention is given, the focus tends to be on student activism, access to higher education, or curriculum development. The experiences of academics affected by conflict remain under-researched, despite the crucial role they play as educators and in generating, documenting, preserving and challenging knowledges. This is particularly concerning given that academics have−and continue to be−at risk as targets of sanction, persecution and oppression. This edited volume seeks to address this gap by exploring, and evoking, the complexities of academic subjectivity, place and practice in contexts where intellectual and state authority are contested or in transition. It features contributions by academics, artists and memory activists who have stepped bravely outside of the parameters of their disciplines, with modes of enquiry and representation that include conversations, vignettes and case studies, critical ethnographies, oral life histories, interviews, poetry and collage.

- Ấn phẩmCurriculum Reform in the European Schools(Springer Nature, 2018) Leaton Gray, Sandra; Scott, David; Mehisto, PeeterEuropean Union; European Economic Community; European Baccalaureate; EU expansion; assessment reform
- Ấn phẩmCurriculum Reform in the European Schools: Towards a 21st Century Vision(Palgrave Macmillan, 2018) Peeter Mehisto; Sandra Leaton Gray; David ScottThis open access book examines the modern role of the European School system within the European Union, at a time when the global economy demands a new vision for contemporary education. The European schools are currently in a state of crisis: their 60-year-old tradition of bilingual and multilingual education is being strained by rapid EU expansion and the removal of English speaking teachers as a result of Brexit. Their tried and tested model of mathematics and science education has rapidly been overtaken by new developments in pedagogy and assessment research, while recruitment and retention of students and teachers has become increasingly fraught as European member states review what they are, and what they are not, prepared to fund. The authors draw on original and empirical research to assess the European Schools’ place in a new Europe where the entire post-war European Project is potentially at risk. This well-researched volume will be of interest to practitioners working in European schools as well as students and scholars of EU politics and international education.

- Tài liệuHuman Security and the UN: A Critical History (Epub)(Indiana University Press, 2006) MacFarlane, S. Neil; Yuen Foong KhongIt is surprising that there is no comprehensive history of the United Nations family of organizations. True, a few of the funds and specialized agencies have or are in the process of writing their institutional histories, but this is mostly a recent endeavor. Indeed, it is no more than what should be expected of all public organizations, especially internationally accountable ones, along with enhanced efforts to organize their archives so that independent researchers can also document and analyze dispassionately their efforts, achievements, and shortcomings. All this is an essential part of the record of global governance during the last half century.

- Ấn phẩmIndigenous Knowledge and Education in Africa(Springer Nature, 2019) Ezeanya-Esiobu, ChikaThis open access book presents a strong philosophical, theoretical and practical argument for the mainstreaming of indigenous knowledge in curricula development, and in teaching and learning across the African continent. Since the dawn of political independence in Africa, there has been an ongoing search for the kind of education that will create a class of principled and innovative citizens who are sensitive to and committed to the needs of the continent. When indigenous or environment-generated knowledge forms the basis of learning in classrooms, learners are able to immediately connect their education with their lived reality. The result is much introspection, creativity and innovation across fields, sectors and disciplines, leading to societal transformation. Drawing on several theoretical assertions, examples from a wide range of disciplines, and experiences gathered from different continents at different points in history, the book establishes that for education to trigger the necessary transformation in Africa, it should be constructed on a strong foundation of learners’ indigenous knowledge. The book presents a distinct and uncharted pathway for Africa to advance sustainably through home-grown and grassroots based ideas, leading to advances in science and technology, growth of indigenous African business and the transformation of Africans into conscious and active participants in the continent’s progress. Indigenous Knowledge and Education in Africa is of interest to educators, entrepreneurs, policymakers, researchers and individuals engaged in finding sustainable and strategic solutions to regional and global advancement.
- Ấn phẩmInnopolis University - From Zero to Hero(Springer Nature, 2022) Mazzara, Manuel; Succi, Giancarlo; Tormasov, AlexanderThis open access book describes the development of Innopolis, a young Russian university established in 2012 to focus on teaching excellence in computer science, engineering, and robotics. It reports on the problems that were faced in the first decade of its development, and the adopted solutions. It shows how the key aspects for the development of the faculty, the curricula, the university structure, and the challenge of internationalization have been successfully addressed by the university management and professors, and how the solutions are scalable for other newly founded research organizations. The book is divided in five parts: “The Beginning” describes the very early days in general, from the foundation and start-up of the university with the related processes. “The People” reports on the initial hiring of the faculty members, the selection of students, and the curriculum development. “The Activities” provide information about the creation of the single research institutions and labs, and their relation to industry. “The Future” gives an outlook on the planned internationalization and faculty strategy. Eventually, “A Visual Journey” shows a selection of photographs illustrating highlights of the whole process and the current achievements. The processes and the components described built the basis for the development of Innopolis, and many of them still have a big impact on its present and its future. The fewer mistakes are made at the beginning, the higher the probability to fully achieve the initial goals.
- Ấn phẩmInnovative Language Teaching Practices in Higher Education in a Post-COVID Era(Ubiquity Press, 2024) Athanasiou, Androulla; Hadjiconstantinou, Stavroulla; Christoforou, PhD(c), MariaInnovative Language Teaching Practices in Higher Education in a Post-COVID Era is a comprehensive and timely exploration of how the COVID-19 pandemic, technological advancements, and socio-economic shifts have dramatically altered the landscape of language teaching in higher education (HE). In response to the global COVID-19 pandemic, educators around the world have been forced to re-evaluate and reinvent traditional teaching practices. The shift from face-to-face instruction to online and hybrid learning was swift and transformative, creating both opportunities and challenges for educators, students, and institutions alike. This book critically engages with this new reality, offering insights, research, and strategies that address the evolving needs of language education in HE. The pandemic-induced transition to remote learning has highlighted the resilience and adaptability of educators, as well as the critical role of digital technologies in teaching. The contributors to this volume reflect on these significant changes and investigate how language educators have responded to this new paradigm, exploring key themes including the rise of Computer-Assisted Language Learning (CALL), the integration of Project-Based Language Learning (PBLL), flipped classrooms, Virtual Exchange (VE) and reflective practices like journaling. This edited volume underscores the importance of digital literacy, fostering autonomy, and preparing students for global professional environments, advocating for reform in teacher education and intercultural competence-building. Through a collection of empirical research studies, case analyses, and practical examples, this book presents a wide-ranging perspective on the future of language teaching and the integration of innovative practices that will shape HE in the coming years.
